Born in South Carolina, Virginia Wood studied at the Art Students League in New York. During this period she developed an artistic, intuitive style, creating original pastels that spontaneously evolve by placing element against element while using the old master technique of layering color onto color. The results are stunning examples of sensitive abstraction guided by a skilled hand creating a visual feeling of growth and movement. Her insightful style gives her work a natural balance in color and composition.
Wood has shared her talent at the Rocky Mountain School of Art and Design, the Cable Arts Channel, and the NBC Network. Her 35 years of accomplishments also include the Art for Public Space Award, publications in the Sunday Camera Magazine, shows at the Front Range Women in Visual Arts, and other international juried and invitational exhibitions.
