Eventov creates colorful landscapes, where her scenes are both real and imaginary and strive to capture the joyous freedom of a bright blue sky and the forest. These particular paintings are executed using a special palette knife to create a mosaic technique. The paint is applied as both blended and pure colors. Smaller knives are used to create depth and detail then a series of varnishes are used to create a “wet paint” effect.
The artist grew up in Leningrad in the former Soviet Union. She graduated in 1987 from the prestigious St. Petersburg Academy with a Masters degree in graphic design. The works of the post-impressionists and those of the Russian Avant-Garde especially fascinated Evantov. The palettes of Matisse and Gauguin affected her interpretation of color while Rodchenko and Malevich influenced her sense of balance and composition. “My works speak of my feelings of happiness. I hope my art is a way to transfer this positive energy and wonderful feelings to others.
